Year of Alabama Food

I can’t believe it took a friend on the west coast to alert me to this, but apparently 2012 is the official “Year of Alabama Food.” This is a celebration of all that is delicious in my home state, and it even comes with recipes.  There are a lot of great-sounding events that are happening as part of all this, and some of them happen every year. There’s even a celebration of butter beans. Every year. My home state is serious about its foods. Not just the glamorous ones.

I don’t know if this event has anything to do with the official Year of AL food, but if you’re anywhere near Gadsden this Saturday you really should go to Front Porch Fest, hear Jason Isbell and have some good local food and beer. I would do it if I could.
